To everything, there is a season…

Dear Pastor’s Wife with young children,

I wrote this on Feb. 23, 2013 to give you all a glimpse of my Typical Sunday with my kids!

That post was me trying to be real…that all pastor’s wives do not have it all together at times, especially on Sundays!

To everything there is a season…Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

The adjustment to being in the ministry and with children is both, a blessing and a challenge! I always felt out of place or felt *guilty* for not being present in the different aspects of the ministry with my husband when the kids were babies. I was always in the nursery, not the sanctuary. Then when we had more kids, I ended up doing kid’s church. I was always with my kids and other people’s kids, but never with the adults.

I got bitter because I didn’t understand my place in the ministry. I asked the Lord to do a serious attitude adjustment in my life. I had to learn to submit myself to Him and the season He had and currently has me in…The Heavenly Father gently and lovingly reminds me that my ministry was my husband, my children and my home.

My dear sister, I know how you feel! My purpose of writing these letters is to remind you that, the seasons God brings about in our life has a purpose. He sees you! He sees your tears that you cry because of pure exhaustion from lack of sleep-I heard of a research that said it takes 6 years after a child is born to recover from the lack of sleep. True or not, there is a little bit of truth to it. He also sees you hiding in the closet just to escape for a bit because you are overwhelmed. I told my kids that I was opting to say ‘no’ to something that I was asked to do because if I did, I would be stay in the constant state of TIRED. They laughed but I did say it was the truth.

I don’t have great advice to tell you about how ‘not’ to feel this way but that the season you are in is just as important as teaching the Bible study, singing on stage or leading worship, cleaning the church…You are a wife and Mommy first and God has called you to be a good steward of the season He has you in. The children will grow quickly and the struggle to be present in our interactions with them will be difficult but so important for us to try.

Hang in there, my friend! His grace will continue to be sufficient and His strength will continue to be ours in times where we just can’t anymore, (2 Corinthians 12:9). You got this with God on your side! You were given these little blessings for such a time as this. We can do this!

Cheering you on with Love,

May
